Ausangate is considered the pakarina (place of origin) of llamas and alpacas and controls the health and fertility of these animals. a clear day in Cusco reveals the shining white massif of Mountain Ausangate to the southeast of the city, the peak stands like a sentinel over the Cusco valley, its 6,372 n.a.s.l./20,900 ft. height surpassing that of all other peaks in the region. Surrounding Ausangate mountain are the jagged peaks of the Cordillera Vilcanota, a range of mountains clustered together to form rugged hiking territory and vistas of startling beauty.

DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY 1 CUSCO -- SANTA BARBARA - SIBINA QOCHA - FINAYA.

We depart from Cusco city, early during the morning, we drive by private bus or van along the high way to Puno road until to Sicuani Province (more or less 125 klm./77.5 miles, From Cusco City) then we drive along the dusty road to Santa Barbara, San Antonio Rancho, Sibina Qocha, finally we reach small village of shepherds and weavers in the highland Finaya (another 90 klm./55.8miles, From Sicuani) at lunch time, the Vilcanota range looms in the distance with several snowy and glacier mountains. After lunch we start our moderate class trek up to Ccasqaraqocha, the camp gear and personal equipment will be carried by horses.

DAY 2: CCASQARAQOCHA-YAYAMANI MOUNTAIN-HACIENDA YAYAMARI.

This second day we offer you the highlight of our trek, after breakfast during the morning is our scrambling to the rocky mountain of YAYAMARI 5,650m.a.s.l./18,500ft. the view point of the Vilcanota range with panoramic scenery of lakes, glacier mountains, snowfields is really worth to get the Yayamari summit, The mountain summit offer you a spectacular views almost the 90% of Cordillera Vilcanota Such as the Climbing Mountains of Continental Glacier 5,543m.a.s.l./18,180ft. Paco mountain 5,400m.a.s.l./17,700ft. Montura mountain 6,050m.a.s.l./19,800ft. Hatunñaño punta Mountain 5,800m.a.s.l./19,020ft. Chumpi Mountain 6,100m.a.s.l./20,000ft.Three peaks mountains 6,100m.a.s.l./20,050ft. Qolque Cruz Mountain 5,950m.a.s.l./19,520ft. Santa Catalina Mountain 5,820./19,090ft. and the main Apu Ausangate. after to climb the mountain, lunch at the base of Yayamari mountain, then we will continue our trek right to the largest lake of the Vilcanota mountain range easy walking to our campsite located near the Yayamari Hacienda in the middle of Sibinaqoqcha lake, another spectacular scenery.

DAY 3: CCASQARAQOCHA - YAYAMARI FARM - CUSCO.

We depart to climb toward the third pass Palomani 5,200m.a.s.l. /16,500ft. This is the highest pass of our entire hike. We have the spectacular view of the eastern ridge of Ausangate Mountain, others peaks like Mariposa, Jampa, Acero, Caracol, Chumpi, Montura, Sacred Yayamari, Qollque Cruz etc. Then we descend into Chillca Finaya a small village with llamas and alpacas, after this the trail leads us uphill the Qampa valley toward the campsite at Qampa another small village 4,300m.a.s.l./14,150ft. also with llamas and alpacas very few population.

WHAT TO BRING

  • A sleeping bag. (recommended 4 season)
  • A backpack (20 or 25 liters).
  • Hiking boots, sneakers and shoes.
  • Long pants and shorts.
  • Long sleeved shirts and T-shirts.
  • Warm clothes sweaters, jacket and fleece.
  • Rain gear.
  • Camera, films, batteries.
  • Flashlight and batteries.
  • Insect repellent and sun block.
  • Personal toilet items and first aid kit.
  • A pocketknife.
  • A water bottle and purified pills.
  • A change of underwear.
  • Hat or cap to protect from the sun, rain or cold.
  • A pack towel.
  • Snacks: Energy bars, chocolate, biscuits, dry fruits etc.
  • Cash USD and local currency (no option for ATM machines)
  • Walking sticks with rubber covers (optional).

  • Pre-departure briefing at your hotel 1 or 2 days before your trek.
  • Pick up from hotels all the members, then transfer by bus to Finaya Village (trailhead)
  • A large igloo tent, for each 2 persons.

  • To be in good health and shape to be part of this trek.
  • Participants in this trek should plan on at least two or three days of acclimation at around 3,400m.a.s.l./ 11,100 ft. Cusco's altitude. Or treks days before in Cusco area. Perfect for the people after Inca trail or similar.
  • We can arrange for accommodations and Pre or Post tours.
